The Royole FlexPai 2 has just surfaced in China, and both its design and specs got revealed as part of it. The phone appeared at TENAA, which is China’s equivalent to the FCC.
Now, Royole may not be the best-known brand around, but it is the company that launched the world’s first foldable smartphone. The Royole FlexPai was the very first, commercially-available smartphone in the world.
The FlexPai 2 is expected to succeed the FlexPai, and improve in a number of key areas. The FlexPai was intriguing because it was a foldable phone, but it had a number of shortcomings.

If you take a look at the images below this article, you’ll get to see the phone itself. Now, the first thing you’ll notice is that its cameras are all laced in the same vertical line. There seem to be four cameras included on the device.
Based on the images provided by TENAA, it seems like this foldable handset folds outwards. That means that its display is never protected by the outer shell, not even when the phone is folded.
That’s the approach Huawei had with the Mate X and Mate Xs, and it seems like it’s giving up that design with the Mate X2. This also means that you’ll have to put up with that thick bezel on the left when the phone is unfolded, the part where the cameras are.
Now, this listing also revealed some of the phone’s specs. The Royole FlexPai 2 will feature a 7.8-inch foldable AMOLED display, with fullHD+ (1920 x 1440) resolution.
The Royole FlexPai 2 will feature powerful specs, including the Snapdragon 865
The phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865, it seems, and that means 5G will be supported. The device will arrive in two variants, one with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the other with 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage.
The phone will also pack in a 4,450mAh battery. Android 10 will come pre-installed, while the phone will include four cameras. The company will place 64, 32, 16, and 8-megapixel cameras on the device. Details were not provided.
The phone will measure 186.2 x 133.8 x 6.5mm when unfolded, while it will weigh 340 grams. So, it will be quite a hefty device. We still do not know what will its measurements be when folded.
TENAA also mentions that the FlexPai 2 will ship in three color options, Dark Night Black, Magic Gold, and Star Gray. The device will become official on September 22, as Royole confirmed the other day.
